Setting Effective Internet Marketing Income Goals

One of the most important elements of successful internet marketing is knowing where you're going. Just like driving a car, you have to have a destination in mind if you want to make effective use of your time and energy. There are several guidelines you should follow if you want to set successful income goals as an internet marketer.

Figure out what you need.
You can't plan your life around some arbitrary number. What you should do instead is calculate how much you need to maintain your lifestyle now. Add together the costs of your necessities -- bills, rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, etc, for a month, and add at least 25% of that total on, in case of emergency. (If your living costs are $1,000 per month, try to make $1,250 each month minimum.) You should aim to have three times this amount (or three months of savings) before you quit your full-time job. If IM is your full-time job, work on earning enough to save up this emergency fund.

Figure out what you want.
Once you know how much you need in the bank and coming in regularly, figure out how much you need in order to get what you want. This requires sitting down and writing out a list of goals – short-term, medium-term and long-term. Calculate how much you actually need to go on vacation to the country you've always wanted to see, pay for the car you want, or cut back your hours at work. Whatever you want can be divided into a monthly amount. It's probably lower than you think! This gives you a great target to strive for in addition to what you really need to earn, and helps enhance your motivation.

When you discover these two amounts, it will give you a much better idea of how much you should be trying to earn every month, week or day in order to sustain your lifestyle.
