Five Tips for Setting Amazing Goals

You probably already know what happens when you set an unreasonable goal. You look at it and you simply can't see how it's possible, so you don't bother to try as hard. As a result, you end up underachieving and performing more poorly than you would have if you had set a reasonable goal.

Obviously, a reasonable goal is crucial to succeeding in internet marketing. But just how do you define a reasonable goal? The often-used SMART system is a great way to quickly set goals that will help keep you on track and earning.

S: Specific
It needs to be well-defined so you know just what you're going to be doing, when, and why. This means no obscure language or odd wording – clear and simple is the best.

M: Measurable
You need to know when you've achieved the goal so it doesn't last forever! Measurable progress, amounts, or percentages are very useful for this.

A: Achievable
Don't set a goal of making a million dollars tomorrow if you've never had a $500,000 day before. This doesn't mean you need to stay inside your comfort zone constantly, but don't stretch it too much or too often.

R: Rewarding
If you hate the work you're doing or don't see the point of achieving the goal, it won't be very rewarding and it will fail to motivate you.

T: Timely
Finally, there should be some kind of time limit so you know how fast to work towards the goal.

For example, this goal meets all the qualifications: “I will earn $1,000 to pay my credit card bill within the next two months of work by offering writing services to internet marketers.” This goal doesn't: “I will make money with internet marketing.”
